Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre Utilises Europress

Opened in July 2020, Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre is Greymouth's modern health facility catering to everyone from those requiring emergency care to those with planned GP appointments.

Waterworks was heavily involved in the design and construction process, initially assisting with installing the medical centre's mechanical heating and cooling services.

The Challenge

Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre is an 8,500 square metre facility with 56 in-patient beds, three operating theatres, two negative pressure rooms, four transitional care units, a family room, a chapel, and an integrated family health centre to support the delivery of primary and secondary healthcare services.

It also houses and supports the delivery of other clinical services, including a 24/7 emergency department, critical care unit, acute and planned medical and surgical services, maternity services, and outpatient care.

The build required an extensive piping network installed for mechanical heating and cooling services, a wastewater pump station, and potable water applications.

The Requirements

With a project of this scale, nature and complexity, the piping solution needed to score well in three areas of paramount importance:

  • Ease and speed of installation.
  • Durability, reliability and longevity.
  • Cost of product and installation labour.

THE SOLUTION

Europress Press-fit Stainless Steel System was the preferred option for Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre and has been used for mechanical heating and cooling services throughout the facility, with close to 4,000 metres of Europress being installed.

All sizes from 15mm to 54mm were used, plus 108mm in the Wastewater pump station. The 304-grade stainless steel tube has been used for mechanical services while 316L was used for potable water applications. Waterworks worked closely with the installer, assisting them with our advanced quality control process, which included regular site visits and project documentation.

Europress was selected for its durability, longevity, installation timelines and cost savings on labour and materials. Thank you to Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre for choosing Europress and Waterworks. It was a pleasure to be a partner on this project and to deliver another successful Europress solution.
