Waterworks: Hydraulic Services (Plumbing) Supply Partner for Stadium Taranaki's East Stand Re-development
Stadium Taranaki, formerly known as Yarrow Stadium, is a cornerstone of Taranaki's sporting heritage and community spirit. As part of the stadium's major East Stand re-development, Waterworks was selected as the supply partner for the hydraulic services pipework, a vital component of the venue’s infrastructure, functionality, and long-term sustainability.
1. Project Overview
In response to earthquake risks, the former East Stand was demolished, and construction began in 2022 to rebuild a modern facility. Set to be completed by the 2025 winter sports season, the new East Stand will offer an excellent community facility featuring flexible spaces for conferences, trade shows, and sports viewing on both the main pitch and outer fields. The upgraded stand will also include scalable seating capacity and improved amenities such as changing rooms, showers, and food and beverage areas.
Stadium Taranaki, located in New Plymouth, has been a key venue for regional and national sporting events since 1931. It is a major contributor to the Taranaki economy by attracting major sporting events, increasing visitor numbers, and promoting the region nationally and internationally.
2. Waterworks Involvement
Our team worked in close partnership with the plumbing contractor providing comprehensive technical specification and design guidance, detailed supply planning in-line with the project timelines, consistent on-time delivery, and ‘on-the-ground' installer support, all critical to a project being delivery on-time and in-budget. Delivering a high-end, cost-effective solution will help ensure the stadium’s functionality and sustainability for generations to come.
3. Key products included in this project are:
◦ Europress® 316L Stainless Steel Press-fit Piping System
◦ Over 1.1 kilometers of Europress® 316L Stainless Steel piping installed for both hot and cold-water plumbing systems, offering a high-end, modern, and long-term solution for the stadium’s plumbing network.
◦ PE Pipework and Electro Fusion: Approximately 600 meters of high-quality polyethylene piping, joined using advanced electro fusion technology for superior durability in both under and some above ground networks.
◦ Valves: A variety of valves, including butterfly valves, stainless steel ball valves, ductile iron gate valves, and brass valves, to ensure precise and reliable flow control solutions.
◦ Insulation: High-performance insulation materials to help deliver an energy efficient solution for the stadium.
The wide range of piping solutions available at Waterworks allowed the installer to partner with one supplier for technical support and supply helping the project to flow smoothly, reducing complexity, all while delivering a high-end solution.
