Carter Holt Harvey Dairy Conversions
Our client, a Tokoroa-based agricultural water solution specialist, was awarded the contract to install the pipework for the stock and domestic housing water for the large Kinleith forestry to dairy conversion undertaken by Carter Holt Harvey, owned by the well-known Graeme Hart.
The Challenge
These 32 farms are located around Tokoroa in the Central North Island with altitudes of 600m and above from sea level. They experience varying temperature extremes from -9°C during the winter months to +32°C during the warm summer months.
For our client, this contract involved installing 480,000m of pipe, that’s just for the water, 15,000m per farm, and 60 troughs per farm. There were varying pressures of over 200 PSI and in some parts of the project up to 16 Bar pressure-rated pipe was required.
The Requirements

THE TOW TEST
Early on in the CHH project, our client was using a mixture of Elysee MD Fittings and another well-known brand. After having a pipe pull out of the other brand of fitting 100m up the trench from where they were working, they decided to test the pull strength of both Elysee fittings and the other brand. In this test they got a piece of pipe and connected an Elysee fitting on one end and the other brand on the other end. From there they tied a ute to either fitting and pulled in opposite directions. THE RESULT: The Elysee fitting held and the other fitting popped off.
